Zumba Fitness® is the Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that blends red-hot international music, created by Grammy Award-winning producers, and contagious steps to form a "fitness party" that is downright addictive.
A Zumbathon® Charity Event is a 3 hour event hosted by a licensed Zumba Instructor specifically aimed at raising funds for recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, in this case, for Moveable Feast. These events include the best Zumba dancing and exercise.
You do not have to dance the whole time. Feel free to sit out some songs and watch your friends!
Team With A Purpose (We're Full Of It!) is the host of this Zumbathon®. Team With A Purpose (TWAP) is a group of friends that participate in the Ride For The Feast. TWAP member Andres Bujanda is a certified Zumba instructor and will be leading the Zumbathon along with several other certified Zumba instructors.
Ride For The Feast is an annual fundraiser to raise funds and awareness for Moveable Feast. TWAP and many other teams and individuals participate in this annual bike ride to raise funds and awareness for Moveable Feast. The ride is completely underwritten by generous sponsors and run by the staff and volunteers of Moveable Feast. This means that 100% of donations collected by the riders go to client services and do not go to any of the expenses of putting on the ride. This years ride takes place May 19-20. The cyclists of TWAP, as well as the other riders, will ride their bikes for 2 days and a total 140 miles, from Ocean City, MD to Baltimore, MD. If we can do 2 days and 140 miles on a bike than you can do 3 hours of Zumba!
Moveable Feast is a Maryland based organization that provides nutritious foods and other services in order to preserve quality of life for people with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening conditions.
Check-in will begin at 10:30am. If you have registered on-line you just need to come to the lobby of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Family Center Y at 900 E. 33rd St., Baltimore, MD 21218. Show up before the start at 11am so you can check-in and enjoy the full 3 hours of Zumba! We'll check you off our list and you'll get a wrist band to indicate you are a participant of the Zumbathon. You'll need to show the wrist band to get into the gym, even for water/bathroom breaks. The Zumbathon® begins at 11am and will end at 2pm. Take a break, get some water, watch your friends and hop back in when you're ready. Remember the instuctors are switching in and out through the entire event too so don't feel bad about taking a rest!
The Y has bathroom/shower/locker facilities but you will need to bring a lock for the locker as well as provide your own towel(s). You'll probably want a towel with you in the gym and maybe a different one for after your shower. There are drinking fountains located outside the gym and on the main floor you can find food and snacks for sale. No food or drinks will be allowed in the gym.
The Y has a parking lot. However, we do ask that you park just across the street from The Y at the Johns Hopkins at Eastern facility. There is a light at the intersecion that leads to both parking lots and has a crosswalk to be able to safely cross E. 33rd St.
While we'd love to see you at the Zumbathon we understand that people may have some scheduling conflicts, (trips, weddings, meetings, washing your hair, etc.). If you can't make it to the Zumbathon but still want to make a difference in the lives of the clients of Moveable Feast just make a donation to Team With A Purpose through our ride page found here.
